SUSPICIOUS PERSONS & VEHICLE

Santa Monica Police have received a second-hand report regarding two suspicious women driving a vehicle in the area of 19th and Carlyle Avenue, and also at 14th and Marguerita Avenue.  On Wednesday, May 23rd at an undetermined time, the women got out of their vehicle at the above locations and approached two different nannies who were walking their employers’ infant children.  The women offered to sell the nannies t-shirts and socks.  When they were refused, the women offered to buy the infant children the nannies were caring for.  When they were again refused, the women drove away.

The suspicious women are described as Spanish-speaking Latinas having short hair.  They were driving an approximate 1990’s dark red full-size van.

LAPD recently investigated a similar report and circumstance, yet they were able to determine the report was false.  We are unable to verify the veracity of the Santa Monica report.  Nevertheless, we are informing the community in the event the report is accurate.

We are asking that if anyone sees the above described van and occupants to attempt to record a license plate and immediately call 9-1-1.  If anyone has additional information regarding this incident, you are asked to call SMPD Juvenile Detectives at (310) 458-8457. Callers with suspect information who wish to remain anonymous may also call the We-Tip national hotline at 1-800-78-CRIME (27463).  Information which leads to an arrest and conviction makes the caller eligible for up to a $1,000 reward.
