The Santa Monica Police Department has seen
an increase in reported residential
burglaries in recent weeks.
To decrease your chances of becoming a
victim, follow the crime prevention tips
below:
·
Remember – Always LOCK
all windows and doors even when leaving for
just a minute.
·
Do not leave the porch light
on during the day.
·
NEVER open the door to
strangers. Always demand to see
identification before opening the door. If
the person acts suspicious or refuses to
provide identification – call the police
immediately!
·
Draw and/or close all
curtains, blinds, and shutters when away.
·
Make sure all side and back
gates are closed and well padlocked.
·
Use inside variable timers to
activate lights, radio, or a TV when you are
away.
·
Never leave your house key
hidden outside under a doormat, in a flower
pot, or on the ledge of a door.
·
Do NOT leave notes on
your door indicating you are out or when you
will return.
·
When on vacation, leave your
trip plans and an emergency phone number
with a trusted neighbor or friend and be
sure to ask them to pick up the daily mail.
·
Do not hesitate to call the
Santa Monica Police if you observe any
suspicious behavior.
For emergencies, call 9-1-1.
For NON-emergencies, call 310-458-8491
(this number should also be used when
