Captain Alfonso Venegas is a 20 year veteran of the
Santa Monica Police Department and was promoted to
his current rank in 2007. He currently commands the
Office of Special Enforcement, which includes
Traffic, Narcotics, Vice, and Special Operations.
Prior to joining the department, Captain Venegas
served honorably in the United States Marine Corps
and was discharged at the rank of Sergeant. He has
extensive experience in field operations, which
includes: the Crime Impact Team, the Metro Anti
Crime Unit, Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT), and
Canines.
Captain Venegas was promoted to
Police Sergeant in 1997 and Police Lieutenant in
2002. As a Police Lieutenant his commands included:
Night Watch Patrol Division, Directed Resources
Division, and the Internal Affairs Division. He also
served as the Executive Officer, Office of
Operations. |
Captain Venegas holds a
Bachelors Degree in English from Mount Saint Mary’s
College. He is a graduate of the Peace Officers
Standards and Training, Executive Leadership -
Command College, Class 38. Captain Venegas is the
recipient of the Department’s Medals of Valor,
Courage, and Lifesaving and has received numerous
citations for exemplary service.
Captain Venegas serves on a
number of social service organizations, including:
The American Diabetes Association and Step Up on
Second. Additionally, he serves as an area expert
to the Peace Officers Standards and Training on
Homelessness and Returning Military Reservists.
