Traffic Fatality Involving a Pedestrian

| On December 15, 2009, at 11:50 a.m. an 82-year-old pedestrian was struck by a vehicle while crossing the street at the intersection of 18th Street and California Ave. The pedestrian was transported to a local hospital in critical condition. |
| The initial investigation revealed that the driver of the vehicle, a resident from the Torrance, was traveling westbound on California Ave. The pedestrian, a resident of Santa Monica, was walking eastbound in an unmarked crosswalk. The driver made a left turn and struck the pedestrian. |
| The driver of the vehicle was interviewed at the location and released. The Santa Monica Police Department is continuing to investigate the cause of the collision. |
| On December 17, 2009 the pedestrian succumbed to his injuries and died at the hospital. |
