    Traffic Fatality Involving a Pedestrian

    On December 15, 2009, at 11:50 a.m. an 82-year-old pedestrian was struck by a vehicle while crossing the street at the intersection of 18th Street and California Ave. The pedestrian was transported to a local hospital in critical condition.
    The initial investigation revealed that the driver of the vehicle, a resident from the Torrance, was traveling westbound on California Ave. The pedestrian, a resident of Santa Monica, was walking eastbound in an unmarked crosswalk. The driver made a left turn and struck the pedestrian.
    The driver of the vehicle was interviewed at the location and released.  The Santa Monica Police Department is continuing to investigate the cause of the collision.
    On December 17, 2009 the pedestrian succumbed to his injuries and died at the hospital.
