    Synopsis: On 03/14/91, friends discovered the 29 year old body of Scott Kellogg who had been shot to death in his apartment.  Kellogg was selling marijuana from his apartment and was known to keep large amounts of cash on hand.  It appears that Kellogg was shot and killed for the purpose of robbery.  There were no witnesses to the crime.

    Synopsis: On 06/25/91, employees of a business at the address found the 34 year old body of Charles Davis on a second story sundeck.  Davis died from a single gunshot wound to his head while sleeping.  There were no witnesses to the crime.

    Synopsis: On 07/31/91, 44 year old Victim Felton Davis was engaged in a verbal altercation with 2 male Hispanics.  One suspect produced a knife and stabbed Davis in the chest.  This single stab wound pierced Davis’ heart and he died as a result.  Witnesses described the suspects as 2 male Hispanics, possibly transients.  No arrests were made.

    Synopsis: A passerby observed 2 male Hispanics beating 43 year old Victim Stephan Garland.  When the suspects made eye contact with the witness, they fled the scene on foot.  During the assault, Garland sustained multiple stab wounds to his upper torso and died during surgery.  No arrests were made.

    Date of Occurrence:  October 5, 1991
     

    Synopsis: On 10/05/91, passersby found the 43 year old body of Larry McKinney behind a dumpster on the Santa Monica Pier.  Although there were no outward signs of foul play, the Coroner’s Office determined that McKinney died as a result of blunt force trauma to his abdomen and therefore ruled the cause of death a homicide.  There were no witnesses to the crime.

    Date of Occurrence:  October 22, 1991
     

    Synopsis: On 10/22/91, a group of individuals including 23 year old Gilberto Villalobos were congregating in the alley behind 2122 Pico Bl.  A rival gang drove up to the mouth of the alley and fired several shots from a shotgun in the groups’ direction striking Villalobos in the head, chest and lower body.  Villalobos died as a result of his wounds.  There were no identifications or arrests made.

    Date of Occurrence:  November 24, 1991
     

    Synopsis: Severo Fabian (a transient) was sleeping in the 1600 block of Olympic Bl. at 0145 hours.  A witness was also sleeping in the same area about sixty feet east of Fabian.  At that time, the witness heard and saw a vehicle drive up to Fabian and the driver exit the vehicle.  The witness heard nothing else until the driver entered the vehicle, started the vehicle and drove away.  The witness heard the driver say to the passenger, “I knocked him out, let’s go!”   The witness got up about ten minutes later to check on Fabian and thought that he may need medical attention and called SMPD.  Fabien suffered severe blunt force trauma to his head and died as a result.  No arrests were made in the case.

    Synopsis: 57 year old Gale Bruce died of a ruptured spleen while in custody on a drunk in public warrant.  It is thought that Bruce was the victim of a physical fight that ruptured his spleen prior to his arrest.  No arrests were made.

    Date of Occurrence:  March 18, 1992
     

    Synopsis: 36 year old Norbert Young was found by officers alive but he had sustained blunt force trauma to his head.  At the time, Norbert denied being the victim of a crime but two days later, he succumbed to his injuries.  The Coroner determined that the mode of death was a homicide based on the fact that Young sustained several lacerations to his scalp.  There were no witnesses to the crime.

    Synopsis: 34 year old Maria Arrazola was a patron at La Pantera Rosa Bar when a security guard engaged in a physical altercation with several intoxicated male subjects.  A short time later, the subjects returned and began shooting towards the front door as they drove by.  Arrazola, who was seated at a table, was struck once in the chest and died as a result.  No one was ever arrested in connection with this crime.

    Synopsis: 21 year old Jose Ramirez and a female companion were congregating in the alley behind 1523 19th St.  At that time, a vehicle drove into the alley and both driver and passenger exited the vehicle.  The two suspects walked up to Ramirez and his female friend and fired several shots striking Ramirez in the head and chest.  Ramirez was killed and the female was struck once in the left shoulder and survived.  No arrests have been made.

    Date of Occurrence:  February 7, 1993
     

    Synopsis: 16 year old Gerber Flores was seated in the front passenger seat of his friends’ (the driver) vehicle talking with a group of male Hispanics in the alley.  His window was down.  The group used the ruse of wanting to check out the car stereo and as they did, one suspect began stabbing Flores multiple times through the open window.  Gerber’s friend immediately started his vehicle and drove away from the scene.  Gerber succumbed to his wounds shortly upon arrival at the hospital.   No arrests have been made.

    Synopsis: 30 year old David Corral was stabbed in the neck while attempting to enter his apartment.  He was discovered by family members when they heard screaming coming from the courtyard outside of their apartment.  No suspects were seen and no one was arrested.

    Synopsis: 28 year old Adrian Martinez was shot three times in the abdomen by a male Black suspect while paying for gas at the Arco Gas Station at Lincoln Bl. and Michigan Ave.  The weapon used was a .380 caliber handgun.  Martinez died as a result of his injuries.  The suspect vehicle was described as a dark blue possible older model Buick Skylark.  No arrests were made.

    Synopsis: 33 year old Jay Chavez was with friends on the beach when three male Hispanics robbed them at gunpoint.  Chavez attempted to intervene when he was shot once in the head.  No arrests were made.

    Synopsis: 20 year old Ulysses Godinez was gunned down in front of 1802 17th St. at 1:00am.  Godinez sustained numerous gunshot wounds to his chest and lower body and died as a result.  It is believed that this crime is gang related but no arrests were made.

    Synopsis: 23 year old Julian Flores was talking to a friend on a payphone located on the south-east corner of 11th St. and Pico Bl. at 9:54 pm.  At that time, unknown suspects drove by Flores and fired four shots at him.   Flores was the victim of a drive-by shooting and received 4 gunshot wounds.  He died a short time later at the hospital.

    Synopsis: 30 year old Oshania Randle was living with a male friend in an encampment below a freeway overpass.  On 01/22/95 at 3:00 am, Randle’s male friend returned to their encampment and discovered her body.  Randle had been sexually assaulted and strangled to death.  No arrests were made in this case.

    Synopsis: 45 year old Ruby Gonzalez was found deceased in her apartment of an apparent overdose and possibly at the hands of another.  No one was present at the time of her death and no arrests were made.

    Synopsis: 40 year old Robert Monchton was found by beach maintenance lying on the sand at 5:30 am.  Monchton had a single gunshot wound to his head.  There were no witnesses to the crime and no arrests were made.

    Synopsis: 24 year old Salvador Palomino was standing with friends in front of the location when a vehicle stopped and words were exchanged.  The passenger opened fire and Palomino was struck once in the chest with a .38 caliber round and died.  The suspects were described as male Hispanics driving a 1980’s red/burgundy Toyota or Nissan.

    Synopsis: 23 year old Luis Cuevas was a passenger in a vehicle that was driving eastbound Pico Bl. at 20th St.   At that time, the suspect vehicle pulled alongside of Cuevas and words were exchanged.  Cuevas exited his vehicle at the same time the suspect exited his.  The suspect was armed with a handgun and fired several shots striking Cuevas once in the chest.  Cuevas was driven to the hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.  The suspects were described as male Hispanics driving a newer model vehicle, possibly a Nissan, 4 door, black in color.

    Date of Occurrence:  January 13, 1996
     

    Synopsis: On 01/13/96 at about 1:10am, 21 year old Betty Casillas was walking on the south sidewalk in the 2100 block of Delaware Ave. with friends.   At that time, they heard about nine shots being fired from an unknown direction.  Casillas was struck twice in the left hip by 9mm rounds.   She later died from those injuries.  No suspects were seen or heard and no arrests were made.

    Date of Occurrence:  November 8, 1996
     

    Synopsis: 40 year old Michael Nagel was the store manager of Crown Books on the night of the crime when the suspect approached him in the office demanding money from the safe.  Nagel complied but the suspect shot him once in the neck anyway.  Nagel died from the gunshot wound and no arrests were made.

    Synopsis: 22 year old Omar Sevilla was walking with friends when the suspect vehicle pulled alongside of them and asked Sevilla “where he was from.”  Sevilla replied “Culver City” and a passenger from within the vehicle fired several shots striking Sevilla twice.  Sevilla was transported to the hospital where he later died.  The suspects were described as male Hispanics and the suspect vehicle was described as a newer Nissan, 2- door and blue in color.  No suspects were identified and no arrests were made.

    Synopsis: 28 year old Juan Campos was chased into the liquor store and shot numerous times.  The assault was believed to be gang related and the suspect was described as a male Hispanic, mid 20’s, 5’-09”, 150/160 lbs, and having a short crew cut style hair.  The weapon used was a 9mm handgun.  No arrests were made.

    Synopsis: 30 year old Richard Whelchel was discovered by beach maintenance personnel lying face down in the sand.  During the investigation, it was discovered that Whelchel sustained four stab wounds and ultimately succumbed to those injuries.  No witnesses were located and no arrests were made.
