    Synopsis: On 02/21/80, 53 year old Jo Soumako was found on the ground next to his bed by his roommates at Hirschorn Manor.  Soumako died as a result of multiple blunt force injuries sometime during the night.  There were no witnesses to the crime and no arrests were made.

    Synopsis: It appeared that 58 year old Donald Hooker was the victim of a robbery that led to his homicide.  Hooker died from blunt force trauma to his head.  No arrests were made.

    Date of Occurrence:  May 10, 1980

     

    Synopsis: Victims Richard Coppock, Jerry Morrell and Royce Hallmark were asleep in an abandoned property when an unknown suspect set fire inside and fled.  All three victims perished in the fire.  There were no witnesses to the incident and no arrests were made.

    SOLVED

    Synopsis:  16 year old Jaquin Mansion was the victim of a home invasion robbery where there was a known marijuana-for-sales location.  Mansion was seated in the living room when three suspects entered the location and demanded money and marijuana.  Mansion sustained a single gunshot wound to the head.  Two suspects were arrested and one suspect is still outstanding in this case.

    Date of Occurrence:  June 5, 1980
     

    Synopsis: 17 year old Raul Diaz was the victim of an assault with a vehicle and multiple stab wounds.  Diaz was discovered by a passerby in the intersection of 17th St. and Michigan Ave.  No arrests were made.

    Victim:  Estelle Fenster, 49 yeras old

    Location of Occurrence:  2201 Alta Avenue
    Date of Occurrence:  June 4, 1981
     

    Synopsis: 49 year old Estelle Fenster was the victim of a burglary-in-progress when she entered her residence and interrupted a burglar.  Fenster was beaten about the head and face and suffered multiple injuries due to blunt force trauma.  She died as a result of those injuries.  There were no witnesses to the crime and no arrests were made.

    Victim:  Robert Montes, 27 years old

    Location of Occurrence:  1100 block of the Beach
    Date of Occurrence:  June 20, 1981
     

    Synopsis: 27 year old Robert Montes was alone on the sand between Tower 11 and Tower 12 between 3:15am and 4:25am on the morning of the crime.  The group he was with was at their parked vehicle in the 1150 Beach parking lot.  When Montes’ friends went to get him, they discovered that he had been shot to death.  Montes sustained two gunshot wounds to his chest and died as a result.  There were witnesses that heard two gunshots but did not see the suspect(s).  An anonymous caller stated that he saw two male Blacks running from the scene.  No arrests were ever made on this case.

    Date of Occurrence:  October 2, 1982
     

    Synopsis:  27 year old Kathy Elgin travelled to the beach parking lot with a male friend and waited in the car while her friend went jogging.  Elgin left the vehicle to use the restroom and was attacked while in the restroom.  Elgin sustained multiple stab wounds to her abdomen and succumbed to her injuries.  Witnesses described a suspect running away from the location as a male Hispanic, 5’-06”, having a slim build, in his 20’s and wearing a light colored or grey sweatshirt and dark colored pants or blue jeans.

    Synopsis:  64 year old Walter Corbiere was found bound, gagged and strangled to death in his home by a roommate.  Corbiere was known to keep large amounts of cash in his home and had been robbed in the past.  There were no witnesses to the crime and no arrests were made.

    Synopsis:  39 year old Michael Feinstein was discovered bludgeoned to death in his home.  Feinstein suffered major blunt force trauma to his head.  There were no witnesses to the crime and no arrests were made.

    Date of Occurrence:  October 8, 1983
     

    Synopsis:  24 year old Benito LeFont was standing in front of the location with friends when an unknown male Hispanic walked up to them and opened fire with a sawed-off shotgun.  LeFont was struck twice in the back and died from his injuries.  The suspect was described as a male Hispanic, 18 to 25 years old, 5’-08”, 140 lbs, dark hair and wearing a black full-length trench coat.  There were multiple witnesses to the crime but no arrests were made.  The incident appeared to be gang related.

    Synopsis:  45 year old Peter Marquardt was working alone in his dental office when an unknown suspect came up from behind and bludgeoned him to death causing numerous lacerations and fractures to Marquardt’s head and face.  There were no witnesses to the incident and no arrests were made.

    Location of Occurrence:  1314 Wilshire Blvd
    Date of Occurrence:  April 4, 1987
     

    Synopsis:  17 year old Henry Cuesta was employed at the Wilshire Mann Theatres when the armed suspect followed him and another employee into the office.  The suspect demanded money and when the two employees advised the suspect that there was no money kept in that office, the suspect ordered both victims to lie on the ground.  Once they did so, the suspect shot both victims, striking Cuesta in the head and the other victim in the neck.  Cuesta died from his injury and the other victim survived.  No arrests were made.

    Synopsis:  62 year old Frank Perez was found bound and strangled to death in his apartment.  It appeared that an unknown subject was staying with Perez at the time of his death.  This subject has not been identified.

    Synopsis:  75 year old James Kepler was found beaten to death in his apartment.  Kepler suffered multiple contusions to his scalp, face, neck and upper torso.  These injuries along with asphyxiation due to neck compression were the cause of his death.  No arrests were made.

    Synopsis:  29 year old Freddie Cadena was standing on the west sidewalk at Crescent Bay Park when an unknown suspect approached Cadena and lunged at him with an unknown object.  Cadena sustained a single stab wound to his abdomen and died of that injury the following day.  There was a witness to the incident but no arrests were made.

    Synopsis:  The location of the incident was an abandoned restaurant that was intentionally set on fire.  It was a location where transients frequented and at the time was occupied by several.  Two male victims were not able to get out in time and perished in the blaze.  To date, their identities remain unknown.

    Synopsis:  35 year old Pamela Crapo was found sexually assaulted and strangled to death on the hillside above Pacific Coast Highway.  This was a location that was frequented by transients at the time.  No arrests were made.
