On July 1, 2012 at 10:30 p.m. the Santa Monica Police Department responded to the area of Lincoln Blvd and Ashland Avenue regarding a collision involving a female pedestrian and a vehicle.
The preliminary initial investigation revealed that the driver of the vehicle, 65 year old male resident of Santa Monica was traveling southbound on Lincoln Blvd and made a left turn onto Ashland Ave. The pedestrian, 54 year old Hispanic female transient was walking northbound in the crosswalk on the eastside of Lincoln Blvd. The driver of the vehicle struck the pedestrian while she was in the crosswalk. The pedestrian sustained major injuries and was transported to a local trauma center, where she later succumbed to her injuries in the early morning hours of July 2, 2012. The Victim’s name is being withheld pending the notification of family.
The driver of the vehicle was cooperative throughout the investigation and was determined to not be under the influence of drugs or alcohol. After being interviewed, he was released pending further investigation.
