WeTip National Anonymous Crime Tip Line

WeTip Banner - Call WeTip 800-78-CRIME

WeTip

The Santa Monica Police Department has joined forces with WeTip, a national nonprofit anonymous crime tip program that has been in continual operation since 1972.   Working with over 390,000 anonymous calls to WeTip, police departments throughout the United States have been helped by this program in solving more than 14,677 crimes and removing over $312 million dollars worth of drugs off the streets and out of our schools.

We encourage everyone to be involved in maintaining community safety by reporting crimes to the police department. However, some people, for a variety of legitimate reasons, may be fearful of coming forward with information that could help solve a crime.  By calling the WeTip hotline, you are never asked to identify yourself.  A caller  can be assured of complete anonymity.  No one will ever know who you are…ever!

WeTip’s toll-free anonymous hotline 1-(800)-78-CRIME (27463) is staffed by bilingual tip operators 24 hours per day, 365 days a year.  When you call the WeTip hotline, the first words you will hear from the tip operator will be: “This is the WeTip crime line, please do not give your name.”  The tip operator will then ask some questions to find out information about the crime and who committed it.   After the information is taken, a case number is assigned to your call. If you have more information later, you can call back and give that assigned case number to the We Tip operator to add more information to your tip.

You are then asked if you are interested in a reward if there is an arrest and a conviction based on your tip information.  If you are interested in a reward, you are given a fictitious code name.  If your information is helpful and leads to the arrest and conviction of a perpetrator, you become eligible for a cash reward of up to $1,000.  You pick up your cash reward at any post office you wish by providing your WeTip-assigned fictitious code name to the Postmaster. You will not be asked to provide identification nor sign any documents.  You will never be identified!
