On September 22,
2001, at approximately 12:48 A.M., Santa Monica Police responded to
Stewart and Kansas regarding shots being fired in the area. While
officers were responding to the area, an additional call came in from
one of the victims, who identified himself as an off-duty Los Angeles
Police Officer.
When officers arrived
they spoke to the off-duty officer who said that he and his two
friends were driving southbound at Stewart and Kansas when the suspect’s
vehicle pulled along side his vehicle and shouted something
unintelligible at him and his passengers. The passenger in the suspect’s
vehicle immediately displayed a handgun, and began shooting at the
victims. One of the victims, the off-duty police officer, returned
fire and the suspects fled southbound in their vehicle.
The victims were not
injured, and it unknown if any of the suspects were injured. The
suspect’s vehicle is described as a brown, older model American
vehicle.
The suspects are
described as 2 Male Hispanics, late teens to early 20’s having
shaved heads.
The Robbery/Homicide
Unit is handling the investigation and they are working on several
leads.
