On
October 26, 2001, at 4:05 p.m., Santa Monica Police responded to the
2100 block of 4th Street in the carport area regarding
suspicious activity. The
reporting party said, that he saw two male subjects shoving the body
of a female into a parked vehicle.
When officers arrived to the rear of the location, a witness
directed the officers to a parked SUV.
As officers approached the vehicle, they saw a male subject
standing at the right rear door with his pants down and a female in
the back seat.
Officers
directed the subject to step away from the vehicle.
A second subject was inside the vehicle and he was directed to
step out of the vehicle. This
subject placed the vehicle in gear and ran over the police officer and
also ran over the male subject. Officers
fired several rounds at the vehicle and the SUV crashed into a parked
vehicle. The suspect was
immediately taken into custody.
The
officer was transported to a local hospital and is listed in fair
condition. The
male subject was taken to a local hospital with complaint of pain to
his back.
The
suspect was arrested at the scene and he has not been identified.
He will be booked for Attempt Murder on a Police Officer and
other related charges. The
Robbery/Homicide Unit of the Santa Monica Police Department is
investigating this case with the assistance of the Crimes Against
Police Officer’s Unit of the Los Angeles County District
Attorney’s Office.
