Incident# 01-083262

On November 13, 2001, at 6:38 p.m., Santa Monica Fire Department and Santa Monica Police Department responded to the Santa Monica Airport regarding an airplane crash.  When firefighters arrived on scene, they found a fully involved airplane at the end of the runway.  The fire was extinguished using the aircraft rescue vehicle.  Once the fire was extinguished, firefighters located two deceased victims, one male and one female.

The airplane had aborted its takeoff, slid down the runway, went over an embankment and hit the guardrail.  The airplane is described as a 1978 Twin-engine Cessna 340A.

The victims have not been identified.  The National Transportation Safety Board and the Federal Aviation Administration are handling the investigation.
