Joaquin Palmer
Arrested 04/02/2008

On April 2, 2008 at 2:30 PM officers of the Santa Monica Police Department responded to a call of a burglary in progress in the 1300 block of Franklin Ave.  When officers arrived the suspect was gone.  Joaquin Palmer was stopped a short distance away from the original location.  A field show up was conducted with witnesses and Palmer was positively identified as the suspect who had attempted to break into the home in question.  Palmer was arrested for attempted residential burglary.

In the month of March there were a number of similar burglaries committed in Santa Monica.  Santa Monica Police Detectives believing that Palmer was connected to these prior cases prepared a search warrant that was signed by a judge to search Palmer’s home and cars.  Detectives recovered numerous items of property that have been positively identified to an additional 8 residential burglary’s.  Detectives also recovered other property that has yet to be linked to a victim of a crime.  Detectives are also researching pawn receipts found for property connected to recent cases.

The L.A. County District Attorneys’ office has filed 9 felony counts of residential burglary against Mr. Palmer with a special allegation of a 3rd strike.  More charges may be filed if additional victims are identified.

Palmer has numerous prior arrests and convictions for burglary, robbery and rape.

The Police are seeking assistance in identifying the property still in their custody.  If you were a victim of a recent burglary and if you are interested in viewing this property please read the Public Information Bulletin published by the Police Department at http://www.santamonicapd.org/Bulletins/PublicBulletin-08-002.htm.
