    Suspect Charged for Shooting Incident on the Santa Monica Pier

    Santa Monica Police Department (SMPD) personnel responded to a shooting incident on the Santa Monica Pier on the morning of August 23, 2018.  They located a lone victim suffering from a single gunshot wound to the leg.   The victim was assisted by medical personnel at the scene and later transported to a local hospital, treated for a non-life-threatening wound, then discharged later that day.

    SMPD Detectives responded to the crime scene and made subsequent contact with the victim.  The victim reported getting into an altercation with an unknown male (accompanied by female companion) who shot the victim then left the scene.  Through the course of their investigation, SMPD Detectives were able to identify the suspect.  They determined that the suspect had been taken into custody, for an unrelated crime, by the Upland Police Department approximately twelve hours after the shooting.  The suspect was found in possession of ammunition at the time of his arrest.

    The suspect has been identified as Ivan GALIANO, a 20-year-old male from Rancho Cucamonga, CA.  GALIANO is currently on Los Angeles County formal probation for weapons and drug offenses.  

    On August 30, 2018, GALIANO was charged by the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office with 664/187 P.C.- Attempted Murder, 245(b) P.C. - Assault with a Deadly Weapon (firearm), and 29800(a)(1) P.C. - Felon in Possession of a Handgun.  GALIANO remains in custody with the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department, pending his transfer to Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.
