    Deputy Chief Darrick Jacob is responsible for the day to day operations of the Police Department.

    He began his law enforcement career with the California State University, Northridge Police Department in 1996, before joining to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department in 2001.  He was hired by Santa Monica Police Department in 2004.  During his time as a Police Officer, Deputy Chief Jacob worked as a Patrol Officer, Field Training Officer, Motor Officer, Defensive Tactics Instructor and Property Crimes Detective.

    In 2008, he was promoted to the rank of Sergeant.  As a Sergeant, he supervised Patrol, Personnel and Training, the Santa Monica Animal Shelter, Police Dispatch and Detectives.  He was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant in 2013 and worked assignments as a Patrol Watch Commander, Operations Adjutant, Downtown Services Unit Commander, Homeless Liaison (HLP) and S.W.A.T. Commander. He was promoted to the rank of Captain in 2018.  As a Captain, Deputy Chief Jacob commanded the Patrol Operations Division responsible for Patrol, Community Services Officers, Downtown Services Unit, Public Services Officer Downtown Unit, Harbor Services, Field Training Officer, and Canine Programs.  He has also commanded the Strategic Services Division responsible for Traffic Services and Traffic Enforcement, the Public Safety Officer Unit, the Jail and the Animal Control Unit.

    Deputy Chief Jacob is a veteran of the United States Navy and holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Health Science and a master’s degree in Public Administration from California State University, Northridge.  He has attended numerous professional development programs including the Sherman Block Supervisory Leadership Institute (SLI) and the Senior Management Institute for Police (SMIP).
