    Captain Saul Rodriguez is currently the Commander for the Special Operations Division responsible for the Traffic Services and Enforcement Unit, Crime Impact Team, Homeless Liaison Program, Crisis Negotiations Team, Special Weapons & Tactics Team, Unmanned Aerial Surveillance Unit.

    Captain Rodriguez began his law enforcement career in 1995 as a police officer with the Los Angeles County Metro Transit Police Department.  He worked on several shifts primarily on the Blue and Green Rail Lines and spent his last year working on a Crime Suppression Team.  In 1997, he began his career with the Santa Monica Police Department.  As an officer, he worked various patrol assignments, Pico Neighborhood Bicycle Unit, Gang Unit, United States Customs Federal Task Force, Vice Detective, Narcotics Detective and Adjutant to the Patrol Division Captain.  In 2008, he promoted to the rank of Police Sergeant.  In this role, he worked various shifts within the Patrol Division and was later appointed as the Canine Unit Program coordinator.  In 2010, he was assigned to supervise the Narcotics/Vice Unit and federal task force officers. 

    In 2015, he promoted to the rank of Police Lieutenant where he worked as a Commander in the Patrol Division and a Canine Program Manager. In addition, he managed the Professional Standards Section overseeing Internal Affairs Investigations, Training, Backgrounds, Recruitment and Hiring.   He spent several years assigned as the Executive Officer to the Chief of Police under three police chiefs. In that role, he was the primary Public Information Officer responsible for working directly with broadcast and print media and managed social media.

    Captain Rodriguez is a native Southern Californian, born at St. John’s Hospital in Santa Monica and raised in Culver City.  He graduated from St. Bernard’s High School in Playa Del Rey and attended California State University Northridge earning both his bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice Management and a master’s degree in Public Sector Management/Organizational Leadership. He is a graduate of the Supervisory Leadership Institute, Class #292, in 2011.
